While working on your Windows computer, you may encounter many different types of errors. In this article, we are going to cover a few not-so-common errors and their resolution methods.
CRC Errors
CRC or Cyclic Redundancy Check is a technique used to identify errors that might occur during data transmission. When you try to open the transmitted data the CRC check is done automatically. CRC check is also done every time you transmit or receive data using modes such as the Internet, over the network, or different transmission media—floppy disks, CD-ROMS, Pen drives, and Zip Disks.
These errors are usually caused due to:
Data loss or corruption during transmission.
Problems in the connection used for transmission.
Damaged transmission media.
Damaged file.
To fix CRC errors:
Ensure that there is no fault in the Internet connection you are using to transmit data—check cable, connectors and also ensure that there is no problem at the service provider’s end. You may try to use another Internet connection to see if you can send the data.
If you are using transmission media, such as floppy disks, CD-ROMs, or Zip Drivers, ensure that the media you are using is not damaged.
If you do not detect any problems with the mode that you are using to transmit data, then most probably the data being transmitted is corrupt.
Spoolsv.Exe Error
The Spoolesv.exe file is used to control the printing process on your Windows computer. When the error occurs, you may receive the following error message:
“Spoolsv.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0×77fcc2c0" referenced memory at "0×00000000".
The memory could not be written.”
This error usually occurs due to the accumulation of a large number of .SHD and .SPL files, which store the spool information of your printer in the spool folder. To fix these errors, you will have to delete these files from your system. To do this, perform the steps listed below:
Open the Start menu, select Run, type Services.msc and then press Enter.
In the Services management console window that opens, search for and right-click on the Print Spooler service, and select Stop.
Next, navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers folder and delete all files from this folder.
Next, open the “temp” folder and delete all unwanted files.
Finally, restart the Print Spooler service from the Services management console.
Note: If you are unable to fix the error by performing the above steps, it is recommended that you use the System Restore utility to revert your system to the time when it was free from the Spoolsv.exe error.
Svchost.exe is a generic host process used by services that are run by DLL files on Windows operating systems. During the system startup, the Svchost.exe file is used to check the registry and load the required Windows services at startup. You may find multiple instances on Svchost.exe file running on your system at the same time.
You may receive the following Svchost.exe error, if there is some problem in a recent automatic update of your Windows XP system.
“svchost.exe- Application Error
The instruction at"0×7c918fea" referenced memory at "0×00000010.” The memory could not be "read.”
Click on OK to terminate the program.
Click on cancel to debug.”
This svxhost.exe error is known to occur due to some problem in the Windows Automatic Update process. Therefore, the best way to rectify this error is to first disable Windows Automatic update, perform a manual system update, and then re-enable the update feature.
To disable automatic updates, right-click on the My Computer icon, select Properties, and then open the Automatic Updates tab on the System Properties dialog box.
Now, select the Turn Off Automatic Updates and then select Apply and OK buttons to close the dialog box.
Next, restart your PC, open the Start menu and then select Windows Update to manually update your Windows XP computer.
Manually updating usually fixes the error. If it does not, then let the Automatic Update remain disabled and continue to install manual updates on your PC at regular periods.
There are many causes of Windows errors. As an aware user, you can perform some amount of preventive maintenance to prevent these errors.
For instance, you must regularly scan and repair registry errors because unwanted and incorrect registry entries are one of the main causes of Windows errors. You can do this easily with the help of registry cleaners. You must also detect and remove malware infections with the help of anitvirus and antispyware applications.
Finally, keep your PC updated with the latest patches and hotfixes to maintain a healthy, high performance, and error-free system.
