One of the most annoying things with Windows is mapping a drive to a share and having the share open in a separate window. Why? It makes no sense when you have Windows Explorer open to map the drive in the first place.
Fortunately there is an easy way to prevent the second window from opening on XP…
When mapping a drive, open Windows Explorer directly or by clicking on a shortcut to a folder. Before clicking the Finish button, hold down the Shift key, then click Finish. The drive will map to the share without opening a second window.
While this method works great on Windows 2000 and XP, it does not work on Vista. If you find a way of stopping the second window from opening on Vista, let us know about it!!
